Silence the Unnecessary Noise: How to Disable the New Facebook App Sounds

Starting in February, Facebook has begun releasing a new update for their smart phone app on both iPhone and Android operating systems. While the update contains some good bug fixes, it also contains something pretty irritating — a wave of new sound effects on nearly every activity you can possibly engage in on the Facebook app. While browsing around on the most popular social media network, you’ll notice that chirping noises now sound off whenever you refresh your feed, little popping noises – not unlike the old chat notification sounds from years ago – go off whenever you open tabs in your Facebook app or when you go backwards in your tabs, etc.

These sounds are pretty incessant, pointless, and fit perfectly within Facebooks constant metality of adding things and then waiting for user complaints to remove them (the notification sounds on it’s browser format being one of my favorite annoyances from one of these “updates”).

Luckily, there’s an easy fix. Even though they added the features and turned them on by default, they did at least leave a way to disable them in the settings. It’s a simple in app fix that is the same for both iPhone and Android users and I’ll walk you through it here.

Disable the Sounds

1. Locate the Facebook app on your phone and tap that sucker.

2. Now that you’re in the app, look to the bottom of your screen and access “More” by tapping the three lines on the right. For Android users, your icon is the same, but void of the “More” title.

3. Scroll down (if you’ve got to), and begin looking out for your settings.

4. Once you’ve reached the bottom of your “More” section, you should be able to see your “Settings” button. Tap that icon and proceed.  Android users will go with “App settings.”

5. Go ahead and locate and tap the “Sounds” tab. The light is at the end of the tunnel now!

6. You’ve only got one little option here, so let’s take it. Tap the bar next to “In-App Sound.” Android users will see a “Sound” tab similar to this one to the iPhone one pictured below.

7. Once you see that where the bar was once green is now grey, you’re all set!

There you go. Now, you wont have to hear those pesky, out of place sounds while continuing your unhealthy Facebook addiction.
